big kids...

My kids are big kids... 23 & 21 (my married son and sweet daughter-in-law), 19 (daughter), 16 and 12 (sons). While many aspects of life are easier & less physically demanding when your kids are older, the concerns merely change. Now I don't worry that my kids aren't eating or sleeping enough or developing normally... nope, now I worry that most of them drive cars! My oldest son is a motorcycle technician! EEEK!
Tonight I have kids scattered all over... work, church, who knows where... and what I really want is all of them here, safe and sound. I offered to build my son and his wife a little bitty house in the backyard. I told them I'd cook for them (and I HATE to cook) and wash their clothes (ha!ha!), etc. Oh, well... healthy birds leave the nest. My nest is stil pretty full, but my babies are all spreading their wings. I know this is good. It is the way of the world, but sometimes I miss those chaotic, exhausting days when they were underfoot, filling the house with joyful noise!

You sound just like my mother. And, I'll tell you.. I love it that my mother is that way. She is my best friend. Her and my dad lived 5 minutes from us and they just moved about 25 minutes away and I can't stand it. I can't go a day without seeing her. And my kids, well, lets just say they're a little spoiled. We are moving to NC in May because my husband is being stationed there and my parents and brothers are just about to die.. I don't know what I'll do without being near to them :( We are all so close to each other... My mom calls all of us every night to make sure we'll all home and safe.. There's nothing better than a mother that cares so much, no matter how old we are :)

the 4 of mine have been in and out for years back and forth to and from colleges. I think its been about 9 years since the first one left for college and I have had varying amounts of children in and out since then, sometimes 3 then 2 for a while 1 then back to 2.. but this summer.. the last two left! so I am officially an empty nester. they are all off on their own. I do think the youngest is coming back soon, doesnt want to, but I think he will need to, the living situation he was in ended up not working as planned. but thats ok. he is welcome to come home. the worrying never stops though. theres always something!! I just keep trying to put them in Gods hands, but I still end up worrying!!
Somedays I do wish they were all 9, 6, 4, and 3 years old again. We used to have sooo much fun!
well at least we have all those old memories!
have a sweet week!
hugs

I am very much like you. I have two kids, a son who is 19 and a daughter 16.
Between the two of them, both in computers and design I am filled with inspiration and wealth of knowledge so it is in my best interest to keep them home….hehe. But seriously, I hate to see them go and of course it makes my home easier to live in when hubby works away for the week. My daughter is my best friend who adores literature and art just her mom so we brain storm a lot together. I really don’t like too think too much about an empty nest.
p.s. I like your Etsy logo design with the bird lady…very magical.
Hugs Annabelle

It's so hard letting our babies grow up! And they're always our babies no matter how old they get:)

Ah the empty nest - we felt like we were on a honeymoon for the first 6 months after the children left within a year of each other. Then a friend of our daughters asked if she could move in. She and I got on very well. Then she left to study interstate. Then we had guests come every now and then. Just now my daughter has been back for a few days and brought her house mate to stay. She may be back at Christmas for a little while.
