success!

Well, I have almost entirely neglected my duties today. Here's the proof. I am dusted in glitter, the sun is sinking in the west and I have added these to my Etsy shop...

avoiding housework

Yes, that is my passion... neglecting my chores. Glitter and glue beckon. How can I resist?

Made a few things last night after dinner. I haven't soldered yet... I always have to fight it for a few days before I give in and pull out the soldering iron. I received a stay of execution and do not have to have the pendants done until next week!! Of course, I really SHOULD go ahead and do them... aaarrrggg...
Anyway... these trinkets are in my Etsy shop...

shades of Marie Antoinette...

I have just added some of these gorgeous feather fans to my Etsy shop.

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=23439

I actually want to keep them all for myself, but I must share like all good girls are taught to do.

Today I must solder. I have another mountain of pendants waiting. Anyone who'd like to come over and help is welcomed!! I will supply you with pistachios, coffee, beer, candy canes... you name it!! See you soon... right??

It is a cool, but gorgeous day. I think my sis and I may run the roads a bit. Of course, she'd probably appreciate if if I got dressed first. Later...

autumn in my yard

autumn in my yard, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Two days in a row with no time for art. This does not make me happy.
But I did have a nice lunch with my dear friend, Laurie. It was her birthday.

It was so pretty and warm today, but tomorrow the big chill descends. It was inevitable.

I am trying not to hate autumn... The colors are nice...

chaos theory

Ugh... an artless day. Some bizarre urge came over me (probably started by a rainforest butterfly flitting about) and caused me to spend the entire day cleaning closets. Thank heaven my sis came over and helped me out. I was lying on a pile of wire hangers (ouch) and giving up around 3:00 when she arrived. Fortune was on my side as she had just come from therapy and was well prepared for the insanity of my cleaning binge.
The best thing was purging my outrageous heap-o-shoes and carting two sacks of them out to my car... next stop Goodwill. God, I hope I don't buy any of them back!
We have a big, cool closet under out stairs that Will loves to use as a camp. My sis named it The Nugget (?? size? tastes good??) and it is fitted out with a TV, PS2 and a pile of pillows and blankets. What more could an 11 yr old boy ask for? Anyhow, The Nugget falls into disrepair at times and becomes more like an actual closet... filled with crapola and unuseable as a boy-cave... so today I returned The Nugget to its favored state and I can now guiltlessly send my baby boy to the closet! Mom of the Year retains her crown and septor!!
So, all in all a good day... but tomorrow I must make art.

happy first anniversary!

My little Will swinging with sis-in-law Shawn and big brother Jake...

I can hardly believe that my son and his wife have been married a year today!! They are so sweet and happy! I am so proud of them... working and attending college. They are so good to each other! What a blessing to know my son has such a dear and loving wife!

Millie and the Blue Flowers

Ah, my Christmas spirit was short-lived. I was feeling blue, so a blue assemblage was created. Find her on Etsy...

irresistable

irresistable, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Spent the day working on (not in) my studio space. It is an on-going quest of mine to make the space tidier and more functional. Mostly I move things around and vacuum up glitter.
My sweet daughter is stressing me out so much. She is going through an emotional growth spurt, I think. She is 18 and I am wishing that she was 4 today. I miss my little girl...

more to solder

more to solder, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

I think I'll make another batch or two and then I WILL solder. I must do this before Thanksgiving so that I'll have a bucket-o-pendants for the shop. McKinney's Dicken's festival is the weekend after Thanksgiving and there will be a shopping frenzy. I need to be well stocked.
Today I am off to scamper about with my sweet sister, Juli. We are going on the hunt for cheapo bling down in the bowels of Dallas. Treasures await!!!!
Chilly here...

my sty... er I mean studio

This is how I roll... Despite my best efforts, I am so messy when I create. I try so hard to not be a slob, but I get too caught up in the process to remain tidy. I DO clean up often, but my work space always looks like this when I am creating. sigh...

love these!!!!!

Well, it is November 13th and still wonderfully warm here in north Texas! Though I fight it, I truely hate cold weather and the long, bleak days of winter. And I don't like autumn. There I said it. It always feels so sad to me. Everything is dying... ugh.
I absolutely could not live one inch further north. One more day of chilly weather would kill me.
But, it is lovely now and I will survive the cold when it arrives.
I need an island, though... the sound of gentle surf on a sugar sand beach... my soul's harbor...

snowglobe

snowglobe, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

The weather here on the outskirts of Dallas is hardly Christmasy. It was a most splendid weekend with temperatures in the low 80s. I LOVE it!! Still the holiday season nears and I am busy making Christmas things for my shop.
There is a bit of a pall over our household as my daughter has split with her sweet boyfriend. We all love him, so it is a loss for everyone. So sad, but who knows... they may work things out in the future. He is a dear young man and I confess, I would have been most delighted to have him as a son-in-law someday. My precious daughter is spreading her wings. Sometimes it is just too hard to be a parent. One misses the days when the kids small and easier to protect... sigh...

I've made 28 ornaments today. I am coated in glitter!! I'll take some of these to the shop tomorrow and may list a few on Etsy.

VIRGIN GORDA, B.V.I, CARIBBEAN

Thoughts of beautiful Virgin Gorda warm my heart on a chilly day. I hope to wade in that gorgeous blue water again soon.
It is a mild autumn so far.
Today is dedicated to creating. I have no plans to leave the house and hope to end the day with a pile-o-completed-art.
It is sunny, cool, but a lovely day... a good day to create.

Will at the park

Will at the park, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Will and I went to the park on Sunday sfternoon to enjoy the spectacular 80+ degree November weather. A cold front came through last night and it was in the 40s this morning... but the trusty weatherman says 80s by the weekend. Not bad.

Canton tales...

My buddy, Lisa, and I left for Canton in the wee hours. It's about an hour and a half from the Dallas area. We arrived at 8:00 just as the vendors began to stir. What a sight!! Endless stalls heaped, stacked and piled with wonders! We rolled our granny carts along and began the hunt. I had made a list of items I'd hoped to find... about 10 things, all for making art. As we started out on our quest I said, with my list in hand, "Okay, here's what I'm looking for. I'm putting it out there and I expect to be led to these things." Some of my items were a bit obscure, certainly not sure things to find even at the world's largest flea market. Even if everything I wanted was there, I could not be certain I'd find it in the sea of stuff.
All day we scrounged and dug. I am proud to say I stayed pretty close to my resolve to be focused and look for items to create with. A few things were irresistible and came home as personal treasures, but mostly I found wonderful supplies.
As the day (a most extraordinarily warm and beautiful day for November) wound down I realized that all but one item on my list had been found. I mentioned this to Lisa and we marveled at my good luck. Literally in the next breath we rounded a corner and there was the last item... vintage wallpaper!! Amazing! I do wish I'd added world peace and happiness to my list, but I was astonished nonetheless.

Vintage wallpaper border from Nebrask, purchased from a sweet Amish lady.

A bit of the ephemera I could not resist. This is my greatest weakness and looking for it so time consuming. I mostly bought lots of stuff that seemed interesting at a glance. My instincts led me to the right things. No junk, all delightful paper treasures!

$1.00 birds... these I must keep.

Kitschy Christmas!!! Hard to find cheap as the dealers certainly know how popular these items are... but on a back row found some super deals!

Pastel ornaments and a sweet pink divided dish.

Oh, such wonders~ rusty keys and junky jewels!

Bottles everywhere... the grubbier the better! Bliss!

So, the thing I really needed could not be found... TIME! oh, well... I will dig some up from somewhere. I am off to create and sort and share some of my finds. Keep an eye on my Etsy.

Dutch dolls, dominoes, a huge jar of game pieces, wooden shoes, saints, a dance card, cigar bands...

whew!!

What a week! Sunday through Wednesday I was ill with some bizarre and intense stomach/headache thing. It was really awful and even sent me to the ER for some tests and a bit of IV morphine! But... miracle of miracles, I recovered in time for my first trip to Canton~ the world's largest flea market!!!

I do not have the words to convey the wonderment that lay before me... sigh...
Here are some peeks at a FEW of my finds...

Pink and cream delights... old hats, vintage bling, cherubs, a gorgeous bird, doilies, wallpaper, lace...

Marvels in blue and ivory... a doorplate, earbobs, a pearly collar, the sweetest bottlebrush tree, broaches, a bluejay, millinery flowers...

So many treasures...

... magnificent buttons, transistors and rusty things!

And this is just the first photos I've taken. I have so many more wonderful finds for creating and sharing! More soon... I promise, after I recover a bit...
