ahoy ye maties!

My sis and I are off to hunt for treasure this morning. We don't have long as I have to take my son to get his passport at 1:30. Hopefully we can hit a couple of our favorite haunts before I have to pick him up at school. Gotta' run... the masts are up and the Black Pearl (uh, actually my silver pirated-out Honda CRV) is ready to sail. YO HO!

such lovely things...

I am not a big swapper. Now don't get me wrong, I love swaps, but I tend to over-extend myself... so I really don't participate in many. But, this one was irresistible! A soldered pendant swap with some very talented artists!! Here are my gorgeous pendants...

On the left is my sweet pendant from Laya~ Dollface Designs http://www.dollfacedesign.blogspot.com/ . Her work is absolutely enchanting! She sent a candy watch (yum!), also! Sweet!

The smaller pendant in the middle is from Teresa~T's Altered Art http://www.flickr.com/people/teresa-stanton/ . It is so pretty and I love the size. She included an adorable leaf pendant, also along with some great altered art supplies!!

To the right is Britt's offering. Sparkled Vintage Charm. http://sparkledvintagecharm.blogspot.com/ Britt claims that she has never soldered before... hmmm... Well, she did very well! I LOVE my letter D and the sparkles!! And it was so sweetly packaged!

In the lower center is my fabulous pendant from Mendy ~ Mendy Texas http://mendytexas.blogspot.com/. Mendy was the hostess of this great swap (your hostess gift is in the mail!!). Her pendant is so perfect for a Texas gal like me! Love the beautiful beveled glass and those sassy cowgirls! Thanks for hosting, Mendy!

In this photo, on the left is my pretty pendant from DeDe ~ Dream,Create, Share http://dreamcreateshare.blogspot.com/ . It s a wonderful letter D with the sweet words "feather your nest". I love that! It was also package so sweetly!

On the right is my pendant all the way from Germany and made by Carol ~ Carol's Garden http://www.carolsgarden.blogspot.com/. Her unique and delightful pendant is so pretty and I love the dimensional quality of it! She also packaged her charm very prettily.

In the lower center is my pendant from Tina ~ Paper Mojo http://papermojo.blogspot.com/ .

Tina takes the prize for the fasted response to a swap! I think her lovely charm came a minute after we all joined!! LOL! She wrapped my charm with wire... very unique and quite beautiful. I adore it! She packaged her charm with a sweet lace doily.

Now here is the cool thing... the reverse of these pendants are lovely, too! How cool is that??

My what a charming swap! Thanks girls!!

Cathy at Avalon Rose Design http://avalon-rose-design.com/ was so sweet to give me this fabulous award. Cathy made my wonderful website graphics, blog banner & Etsy banner. Flickr pinkness

Flickr pinkness, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Our lovely spring temps have fled via a fierce north wind. Still, my neighbor's trees are blooming (peaches, I think) and the willows down the street are getting that sweet, green fuzzy look. All of our trees are late bloomers, selected on purpose to thwart north Texas' notorious late freezes. Our yard is still winter-bland, but not for long. Spring is just off stage fluffing up her tutu and practicing her lines.

coming soon...

coming soon..., originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

I worked on some more springtime things today. The weather was very inspiring... warm and definately spring-like!
I worked on Will's room a bit today, too. I'll have to take some photos and post them. His room has a castle theme.
Well, I'm off to read a bit and head to dreamland. Goodnight, friends!

Princess Sundrop

Princess Sundrop, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

I HAD to make something today or I was afraid I would combust! So, I took a break in my reorganization and made this. You can find it in my shop...http://seadreamstudio.net/

It is a gorgeous day here in north Texas and tomorrow it should be near 80!!! I'll have to get back to work on my studio/house/life revamp. The studio is almost done. Next I tackle my 11 yr. old son's room. I can't start until he is in school as he seems to think he need every toy he has ever gotten in his entire life. After the bus leaves in the morning I am going to be ruthless!!!

SCORE!!

I hate to brag, but the fact is... my sis and I are the Queens of Cheap Jewelry. Today we went to our super-secret-if-we-tell-you-where-it-is-we-have-to-kill-you, favorite, fantabulous, rockin', hole in the wall shop where they have department store close-out jewels for C*H*E*A*P!

We each found some treasures. As you can see I got a very nice sparrow necklace in a most wonderous gold-tone, a multi-strand silvery-black knotted chain necklace and a very fabulous matte silver-tone necklace with some sort of stone briolettes. The heart earrings were 95% off their original insanely low price, so they cost all of 11 cents! I love the black earrings. I have a thing for all-black earrings. The bracelet is by Kenneth Cole and is small enough for my wrist (yea!). And the most wonderous find... the tree necklace with the sweetest little bird dangling from it!! Now, here is the best part... my sack-o-bling cost me... $6.02 (including our stupidly high 8.25% sales tax!)!!! My sister went a little nuts and spent $8.50 or so. She's extravagant like that. She tucked her sack down in her purse and I didn't get a photo of her goodies. What? Was I gonna' swipe her stuff? Hmmmm....
But really, are we Cheap Jewelry Queens or what??

Ah, the simple joys of life...

Still waiting on my sis so we can embark on our quest for $3.00 jewelry! I am giving her another 20 minutes before I leave her behind!

studio redo

Now I am down to organizing stuff like this... completed and nearly completed pieces...
I can not express how empowering it is to have my work space so orderly and clean!! JOY!

My sweet sis is on the way over and we are going to do a bit more organizing and then off to hunt for cheap jewelry!! I do love el-cheapo bling!!

A few of my necklaces...

studio revamp

studio revamp, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Ah, order!! Still have LOTS to do, but bit by bit things are becoming orderly!! My sweet sissy has worked like a trojan helping me!
I am so tired it is absurd! But it is a good tired. We accomplished a lot today.

sweet mermaid sister...

I love Flickr! It is a great to place share and meet new friends. Sarah ~ aka~ Gypsy Mermaid Life
http://www.flickr.com/photos/gypsymermaidlife/ is one of my best Flickr pals.
She's a Texan, too, but as you know Texas is BIG and we haven't met... yet!!
I am trying to drag her up my way so we can go to Canton ("The World's Largest Flea Market").

Sarah is so fun and she is super talented!! Check out her Etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5281249 to see her creations! Here is a precious nest she made! I love it!
Her blog is delightful! http://www.gypsymermaidlife.blogspot.com/ You won't have to read much to appreciate her beautiful spirit, great sense of humor and generous heart!!
She is a true mermaid sister. In fact, it is almost uncanny how we, unknown to each other, have created very similar pieces. I think we may have hatched from the same seashell!
Like I said, I love Flickr. It has brought wonderful people like Sarah into my life!

making progress

Still have lots to do, but I am beginning to see some progress

It is a lovely day here. I am so ready
to have this work done so I can create!

my future

This is the outfit I will soon don as
the Queen of All Things Organized Forever and Ever Amen.

There... that's what I've been looking for... All I had to do was listen, pay attention to the universe. Silly me, taking half a lifetime to understand the simplest thing. But now, this day, I am ready.

revamp...

2007 tried to kill me... literally and emotionally. Well, 2007 can kiss my a*$!! 2008 is going to be a whole new ballgame! As part of my new life I am reworking my entire house. My studio space is torn up right now as I (and my sister, bless her heart!! Love you, Sissy!!) totally makeover my life! I am ready to be more organized and less burdened by STUFF! Oh, now I love my stuff, but there is a lot I need to let go. I am emotionally and spiritually ready to fly and I cannot be burdened by chaos, be it creative chaos or just your garden variety mess.
So, I am not able to create right now (aaarrgg!), but in a way this is creative. I am creating a living, woking space that is free from clutter and the weight of too much crap.
Soon I will be posting "after" photos of my new, beautiful studio.
I'm off to fill trash sacks!!!

I was lucky enought to be invited to join a a soldered pendant swap. Here are mine, which are now in the mail. They were really fun to make. I used vintage dictionary pages, images from a 1940's fairytale book, German floral scrap and lots of silvery glitter. I'll post a pic of the pendants I receive once theyy all arrive. I have gotten 2 already and they are gorgeous (thanks Mendy and Tina!)!!!

Hooray! Finished! This is the pendant to go with the paper queen crown. I am off to McKinney to deliver this.
Cold and clear today. I am sick of winter... even this mild Texas winter. I need to see green trees!

paper queen crown

paper queen crown, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

work in progress...
This is a commissioned piece for a paper artist. EEEK!
I am making a matching soldered pendant also. I love making crowns, but don't do many of them. If I put them in the brick and mortar storefront they get shopworn.
Off to my bubble bath...

Marie Antoinette element packet

I've restocked my Marie Antoinette element packs. Find them here...
Had a nice, quiet Monday. Ian is getting better. I have a custom crown to make...
oh, yeah, and dinner, too.

Sunday, February 10, 2008

It is gloriously warm & sunny here... more like April than February... but who's complaining?? I love it! Made a few spring-y things this weekend. You can find them in my shop... http://www.seadreamstudio.net/.
Will is well. HOORAY! Ian is sick now, but not as bad as Will. Hopefully in the next few days this nasty bug will go away from our house!!!
Hope your weekend was fun and creative!

swap goodies from Tricia

swap goodies from Tricia, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

Tricia sent me the most amazing and delightful box of mermaid treasures!! There was even a baby mermaid tiara!!! I am thrilled with every single thing... all of it so thoughtful and beautiful!!!!

Will is better... still not well, but definately on the mend. It has been a long week. No one likes for their kids to be sick. It is sad.

Cool and very windy here. I have to make a Kinko's run later. I think I might need to put some bricks in my pockets!

Tuesday, February 05, 2008

awwww...

My little man has the flu!! Here he is not eating his eggs (out of his toddler plate... good for when you're sick and need some babying). He feels pretty lousy. Since I am housebound with him I hope to get some much needed nearly-spring cleaning done. Gosh, don't you wanna' come over and help? I'll provide hazmat suits and plenty of hazelnut coffee. Don't knock the door down trying to get in!! First one here gets to clean out the laundry room!!!

Monday, February 04, 2008

YIKES!

No, no... no mumps, but perhaps a quarantine is in order! I DID have the wretched stomach bug.
It was fast and furious... 2 days of misery and then a jubilant re-entry into the land-o-the-living!
But, my poor little Will... he had the stomach beast last week and today he has fever, a cough, headache and a sore throat. He got sick in like 2 hours time! Amazing! I thought he looked tired and next thing you know he is asleep with a 103 temp! We are off to good old Dr. Minsky in a little while.
I have managed to add a few (germ-free , I promise) items to my shop including
these fun tickets.
Hope your day is happy and HEALTHY!

Marie Antoinette basket

Marie Antoinette basket, originally uploaded by Sea Dream Studio.

These paper baskets are fun to make, though I doubt I'll be making much of anything today. Seems the tummy bug that has been making the rounds at Casa McLain has, alas, reached me! I am fighting it, but it is not good... Off to my blanket and pillow.
