We survived!!!

We had a lovely Christmas and hope you did too. Now I am ready for SPRING!

My very best gift was being with my family... and my second best gift was a big wad-o-cash for a VACATION! YIPPEEE! I see palm trees in my future!

What a relief... Now we just have to bake cookies and wait for Santa. After yesterday's crazy warm weather today's winds have brought wintery temperatures and grey skies. It certainly feels more like Christmas and I am happy that I won't have to be looking at pale Texans wearing shorts in December.
Of course I am freezing as I do whenever it is below 80. My dream Christmas would be a day at sea on a Cunard liner somewhere near the equator. Ah, bliss...

a change of plans...

The 6:00 am phone call is rarely good. When Laurie called me this morning I knew it was not to chat. Turns out she need a ride to the ER. Oh, no biggie... just CHEST PAIN! Long (and I do mean long) story short, she's okay, but spending the night being watched, having some tests done and watching some pretty good free movies. I spent most of the day and all evening with her and let me tell you ... these guys were nowhere to be seen. Nope, only their dorkier, homelier colleagues were on call. Just my luck. And... if that wasn't bad enough, Laurie's room is 2 doors down from my old room, where I spent a week in hell last January. Creepy! I even recognized two nurses from my lovely visit.
Good news, though~ Laurie will most likely get to come home tomorrow and her heart seems to be okay. The chest pains are probably related to her recent bout with pneumonia.
And I have an excuse for not doing any laundry today.

I soldered!

Yes, at last I gave in and spent a beautiful (77 degrees!) afternoon soldering pendants. Whew! I still have about 30 to solder, but I got quite a few completed.

Yes, that is my passion... neglecting my chores. Glitter and glue beckon. How can I resist?

Made a few things last night after dinner. I haven't soldered yet... I always have to fight it for a few days before I give in and pull out the soldering iron. I received a stay of execution and do not have to have the pendants done until next week!! Of course, I really SHOULD go ahead and do them... aaarrrggg...

Two days in a row with no time for art. This does not make me happy.
But I did have a nice lunch with my dear friend, Laurie. It was her birthday.

It was so pretty and warm today, but tomorrow the big chill descends. It was inevitable.

chaos theory

Ugh... an artless day. Some bizarre urge came over me (probably started by a rainforest butterfly flitting about) and caused me to spend the entire day cleaning closets. Thank heaven my sis came over and helped me out. I was lying on a pile of wire hangers (ouch) and giving up around 3:00 when she arrived. Fortune was on my side as she had just come from therapy and was well prepared for the insanity of my cleaning binge.
The best thing was purging my outrageous heap-o-shoes and carting two sacks of them out to my car... next stop Goodwill. God, I hope I don't buy any of them back!
We have a big, cool closet under out stairs that Will loves to use as a camp. My sis named it The Nugget (?? size? tastes good??) and it is fitted out with a TV, PS2 and a pile of pillows and blankets. What more could an 11 yr old boy ask for? Anyhow, The Nugget falls into disrepair at times and becomes more like an actual closet... filled with crapola and unuseable as a boy-cave... so today I returned The Nugget to its favored state and I can now guiltlessly send my baby boy to the closet! Mom of the Year retains her crown and septor!!
So, all in all a good day... but tomorrow I must make art.

I can hardly believe that my son and his wife have been married a year today!! They are so sweet and happy! I am so proud of them... working and attending college. They are so good to each other! What a blessing to know my son has such a dear and loving wife!

I think I'll make another batch or two and then I WILL solder. I must do this before Thanksgiving so that I'll have a bucket-o-pendants for the shop. McKinney's Dicken's festival is the weekend after Thanksgiving and there will be a shopping frenzy. I need to be well stocked.
Today I am off to scamper about with my sweet sister, Juli. We are going on the hunt for cheapo bling down in the bowels of Dallas. Treasures await!!!!

Well, it is November 13th and still wonderfully warm here in north Texas! Though I fight it, I truely hate cold weather and the long, bleak days of winter. And I don't like autumn. There I said it. It always feels so sad to me. Everything is dying... ugh.
I absolutely could not live one inch further north. One more day of chilly weather would kill me.
But, it is lovely now and I will survive the cold when it arrives.
I need an island, though... the sound of gentle surf on a sugar sand beach... my soul's harbor...
